The 64th American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition is not only a meeting to share data and outcomes from clinical trials relating to new treatments, but also to discuss other topics affecting those with a hematologic cancer. One of those is nutrition and diet.

Dr. Urvi Shah, MD, is passionate about our diet and how it can improve outcomes in dealing with multiple myeloma. She suggests we look at diet as a drug, another way we can treat our disease. It can start as prevention and continue as part of treatment. Finally it can contribute to our survivorship by improving our overall health, reducing the risk of medical problems and other cancers. This was probably one of my favorite presentations at this year’s ASH. I encourage you to read more about nutrition and cancer. As we approach the new year, and we are making those resolutions, consider making one that will improve your life!
